13th September 2008
I recently embarked on a three week "road trip" to the South West of England exhibiting at two events and working in an old friend's workshop in between.
Fiona and I erected my stand in our striking medieval marquee (made by World Tents) as part of the "Festival of the Tree" at Westonbirt Arboretum, the Forestry Commission's national showpiece collection of over 3000 species of trees and shrubs covering 600 acres - truly a tree-lover's heaven!
The show was for me both a huge success and very enjoyable. In addition to selling a lot of my work, it was a great opportunity to meet many other wood users and wood lovers.
Two weeks later, after a lovely stay with old friend's Pete & Cath (and sharing Pete's workshop), we set up outside the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe for North Devon Folk Festival . Whilst not a huge financial success, the event was extremely enjoyable, not just for the music (Seth Lakeman, Transglobal Underground, Bellowhead...), but also for the people, including the venue's wonderfully friendly and helpful management and staff.
I returned with a list of commissions and a generous collection of Pete's off-cuts to be greeted by five new kittens, a giant pumpkin and a mountain of marrows.
